1. Bathroom: there will be no trips to the bathroom. Bathroom times are in between classes and during recess. If it is an emergency, you will have afternoon recess detention to make up work you missed.
2. When you miss a day: Yes, we did do work, and yes, you have to make it up. Turn in your excuse during homeroom or before the bell rings. If you need notes, there is a file box in the classroom with any handouts received. There is also a bulletin board with that week's lesson plans posted on it. If you missed a test, see Mrs. Fontenot.
3. Tests: all tests will have multiple choice, short answer, and an essay. Tests will never be open book. We will have one test/100 pt. assignment per week.
4. Silent reading: every day, for 10 minutes, we will have silent reading. You are responsible for bringing in a book. This is not a time for drawing, finishing homework, or sleeping.
5. Group work: we all know students love group work. Group projects are usually pretty fun, and give you a change of scenery from a teacher just talking (and talking, and talking…). But group work is not a chance to kick back while the Ms. or Mr. Smarty Pants in the group does the work for you. It’s a way to learn together (you know, two heads are better than one?). During group work, you should:
v work quietly—I put you 2 feet apart for a reason—so you don’t have to YELL!!!
v all contribute—you will all be assigned a task
v know that you may not all get the same grade—grades are assigned according to the work you put in. I do watch to see who’s working
v Work quickly and efficiently—arguing for 30 minutes over your group name will not get you very much accomplished
6. Last but not least—have fun. School and fun may not go together, you think, but if you open yourself up to it, you just may enjoy my class. I don’t plan boring days. Do you think I want to be bored all day? I want you to have a good time and learn things that are important to your life. The things we’ll learn in class will help you function in the world and may help you appreciate the world as well.
