Hyphenated Adjectives  (I glanced around the room with an if-you-even-so-much-as-crack-a-smile-or-breath-too-loudly-I-will-write-you-up-in-a-heartbeat expression on my face. )

 

Alliteration  (I spend most Monday mornings with the magical, miraculous Mrs. Morgan.)

 

Assonance ( Joe showed slow growth.)

 

Rhyme  (That creep had to sleep in his jeep because he was too cheap to pay for a Sleep Suite.)

 

Hyperbole  (My teacher is 1000 years older than dirt.  When she was my age, her only companion was her pet dinosaur.)

 

Magic 3 (Frequently glaring menacingly at other students, snarling rudely at teachers, and snickering wickedly at security has resulted in no one enjoying Helga’s company.)

Repetition for Effect (Jenny was fake.    That fake sob story will help her fake her way out of trouble again. She will twirl her fake hair, bat her fake eyelashes, display too much of her fake tan, and flash her fake smile.)

 

Exploded Moment (As I waited for the principal to call me into his office, every possible scenario ran through my head.  What would I say?  How could I live through this?  My heart was racing and my head was aching.  Why couldn’t I just keep my stupid mouth closed?  What will they do to me?  Will I still get to go on the trip? Little beads of sweat accumulated on my forehead and I watch my hand start to tremble.  I was dead meat.)

 

Full-Circle Ending  (If you really don’t know by now…You really should know by now.)

 

Allusion  (On Jamie’s first day at Lakeside, she felt like a twister was in her stomach. She was not in Kansas anymore, and there was no place like her old school.  She wanted to follow the yellow brick road back to Holly Heights.)

            “I have no idea.  I think it is when you paint a log a different color,” said James.

            “Remember class, in dialogue, you have to indent each time you change speakers,” remarked incredible Mr. Jot.

              Jonah exclaimed, “Oh, No! I need a sharp tool to indent this dialogue!”
