AP STUDIO ART
Prerequisite: Students must successfully complete at least one Visual Art course (full year). This Includes the disciplines of Drawing and Composition, Painting, Printmaking, 2D Art, 3D Art, Digital Photography, Ceramics, and/or Computer Graphics. Students must have a preliminary portfolio review with their instructor during their sophomore/junior year to make sure they are prepared for the rigor of this college-level course.
The AP Studio Art Course is for students interested in a rigorous and focused study in art. Students will develop a quality portfolio that demonstrates a mastery of concept, composition and execution in Drawing, 2-D Design, or 3-D Design.
This course is based on a student creating a body of work that includes Written Evidence, a Sustained Investigation, and Selected Works. This portfolio will be submitted to the College Board for college credit. As in any college level course students will be expected to spend a considerable amount of time outside of class in order to complete assignments, homework, and sketchbook assignments.
PAINTING
Painting is open to all students who have successfully fulfilled 2D Art. This course is designed for students who are interested in studying visual arts as a vocation. Students will have an exposure to the concepts of painting in a studio setting. Students will be exposed to the planning execution, history, criticism, aesthetics, vocational and exhibition processes of painting. Students will become familiar with methods and materials of increasing difficulty. This course fulfills the Visual and Performing Arts requirement.
Digital Photography
In this course, students will begin an exploration of digital imaging with a digital camera. It introduces the use of the digital camera as an artistic tool. Students will develop an understanding of effective techniques and tools when utilizing a digital camera. With the rapid growth of digital camera accessibility, students have new opportunities to explore virtually any subject with the aid of these devices. This hands-on unit allows students to examine the camera selection process and explore the features and operation various digital cameras. This course will be focused on incorporating the principles and elements of art into digital photography. Five areas of instruction will be emphasized: How cameras work, how composition works, how lighting works, how to use photo editing software (Photoshop) & Basic History of Photography.
