HOW DO I GET VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES (VA)?

Everyone must get 2 VA to be invited back next year or receive a free patch (if you are a senior).

*Freshmen orientation is a MUST unless there is an acceptable reason for missing.  This will count as 1 of your 2 VA.

*The other VA can be anytime I ask for volunteers like helping with other orientations (senior, junior, sophomore), Open House, Career Day, 5K run, graduation, etc.  You can also volunteer with your church or other organizations if you bring me a letter describing what you did with a name and contact information.

**What if I can't make orientaion??

* Then you must get 3 total VAs.

**What if I go to the TECH center and can't visit with freshmen during 8th hour?

* Then you must get 5 total VAs.

DO…

1)      Encourage them with their grades.

 2)      Give them accurate information about school related things

 3)      Talk about their behavior and how it affects first impressions by teachers

 4)      Talk about their behavior at sporting events

 5)      Stay on topics listed

 6)      Keep it all school related!!

 7)      Acknowledge them in the hall outside of advisor time

8)     If the teacher allows you, take your freshmen in the hall or pull them to a corner in the room.  They may open up a little more and talk.  It might also be a little less uncomfortable for you in front of the other students in the room.

 DON’T…

1)      Get personal (drugs/alcohol, home life, dating experiences)

 2)      Bad mouth teachers/school

 3)      Invite them to parties

 4)      Encourage destructive behaviors

 5)      Be disrespectful or rude

**Remember…You are a leader and your behavior should be respectful at all times.
