Using Edgenuity

As you're starting to use the Edgenuity program, here are a few tips for using the program and for completing the course.

  • Course map - To open the Course Map, just click on the name of your course from the home screen when you open Edgenuity.  Course map shows you all the lessons and assignments you will cover in this course. It also includes a calendar. You can see when each specific assignment is due. You should check your course map daily to be sure you are staying on pace and turning in assignments on time.
  • Past Due Assignments - Any assignment not completed on the day it is due will receive a zero, and this will lower your grade for the class. However, as soon as you complete the assignment, the score you earn will replace the zero, and you will see your average recalculated and go up.  Please try your best to stay on pace and get all assignments completed on time. Check the calendar on the course map before you start working each day.  Edgenuity is available 24/7, so it can be worked on anytime and any day (even weekends).  However, please make it a priority to incorporate this course into your daily routine.  Trust me, once you get behind, it is difficult to catch up!
  • Grades - I will record your average in Oncourse each Friday, and try to update on Monday as well. In Edgenuity, you will see two grades when looking at your course, I will be recording your Actual Grade.
  • Actual Grade - This is your average for the course. It includes all zeros for past due work.  This is your grade in PowerSchool.
  • Overall Grade - This is the average of all work submitted. This gives us an idea of the grade you are capable of having in the course. It does not average in zeros from incomplete past due assignments.
  • Attendance - I will be checking and marking attendance in Oncourse. You need to be logging in and working on your class assignments DAILY in order to be marked present.
  • Notes - Just like in a traditional class, notes are very important for your success in the course! You should be writing down the lesson title, then, while watching the instructional video you should copy definitions, formulas, examples, and explanations. You can use these notes when completing assignments, quizzes, and tests. Or, you may find it more helpful to use the Guided Notes provided.
  • Fail a Quiz - You have 2 attempts for all assignments. When you fail a quiz, you should look at the ones you missed. Go back to the video if you need to relearn the material or add to your notes.  You can ALWAYS ask me questions if you need help. Then you can take attempt 2. If you fail that one too, the program will stop you and you will have to contact me. I will require you to send me pictures of your work/notes so I can help you with what you don't understand. I do not expect perfection, but I need to see that you are trying and then I can help you!
