Option 2: Hard copy

1. You can write out or type speeches and present them to your parent or guardian. Have them sign off that you gave your speech for at least 1 minute. A simple note on your written speech saying something like the following is all that is needed: “My daughter, Suzy-Q, presented her Impromptu Speech #1 to me on 3/20/20. It lasted for 1 minute, 10 seconds.”

2. Your 1-minute speeches should be at least 1 page written.

3. Topics:

Week 5: Find 2 resources (articles, videos, poetry, songs, blogs, etc.) about the corona pandemic and create a speech about them. Make sure to site your sources. At the end of your written speech, give the name of the website and article title.

Week 6: Reach out:  Choose 3-5 people that may be feeling alone right now and reach out to them in some way: call, facetime, text, social media. Check up on them and listen to them. Now plan a 1-minute speech recounting who you reached out to and why. How did they respond? How did that make you feel. Do you think you will continue doing this? Write out your 1 minute speech, and then deliver it to your parent/guardian.

ALL WRITTEN SPEECHES SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY MAY 1.

Week 1: So far, what is the hardest thing about being out of school for a month? And, besides the obvious, what is the best thing to you about being out of school for a month? You will need 1 minute worth of information, so one-sentence answers will not work for this!

Week 2: Find one (or more) way(s) to help someone this week. Describe what you did, the other person’s reaction, and how you felt about helping someone. You will need 1 minute worth of information, so one-sentence answers will not work for this!

Week 3: Learn something new this week: Cook something you have never cooked; fix something around the house with a family member; try out a new online game or program you have never tried; interview an older relative and learn about his/her childhood, read about the Coronavirus or some other topic online, etc. Describe the learning process: What did you choose to learn? How did you feel before you tried it? What was it like doing it? How did it turn out? You will need 1 minute worth of information, so one-sentence answers will not work for this!

Week 4: Revisit your Week 1 question. Now that you have been out this long, what has been the best and worst thing about being out of school? You will need 1 minute worth of information, so one-sentence answers will not work for this!

ALL WRITTEN SPEECHES WILL BE TURNED IN WHEN YOU RETURN TO SCHOOL.

3. We will present persuasive speeches when we return to school.

4. Finish reading your SSR book.
