Welcome to Mrs. Quinn's 5th Grade MATH Website

2024-2025

I am looking forward to getting to know all my new students & parents this coming school year.  I have so much to share with you about my philosophy on Math, the fun tasks we will do this year and how working together will help us all have a successful year.   I also can't wait to tell you about my epic summer adventure & learn all about each of you.

Hello Parents, Guardians, and Students!

In order to see which 5th grade homeroom teacher your child will have this year, you will need to log onto the Parent Portal and complete the mandatory beginning of the year forms. Once you do so, you will be able to view your child’s 5th Grade Homeroom Teacher. If you cannot access the Parent Portal, please call the main office at (973) 366-0590.

What about supplies?

The Board of Education has purchased all needed supplies for students this year!  They will be labeled and distributed during the first week of school. The only items the students need to bring in are backpacks, lunchboxes and water bottles (if needed). In terms of water bottles, PLEASE keep in mind that students will be travelling from class to class with their materals and a cumbersome water bottle may be hard to manage.  Some students learned this the hard way last year!

We understand that students may prefer their own particular style for certain items such as pencil cases and notebooks. They are more than welcome to swap the supplies purchased by the school and use their own. However, the one thing that we do request that students use in Fifth Grade is a multi-pocket folder, rather than individual folders for different subjects. Again, these have been purchased for all incoming Fifth Graders, but if your child has a preference on style, color, or theme, they certainly can swap it out. Students may want to wait until the end of the first week of school to decide what will work best for them.

What’s the biggest change between Fourth Grade and Fifth Grade?

There are definitely a lot of changes that the Fifth Graders will experience this year. Although they will still be in the “blue hallway”, they will be switching classes for each subject. This means they won’t have a desk where they keep all of their supplies, instead, they will be returning to their lockers more frequently for needed materials for each class. During the first couple of weeks of school, we focus on developing organizational skills to make this as easy as possible of a transition. We have a variety of strategies to help both students & parents with this transition.  We will be sharing these strategies during the first few weeks of school & at the Back-to-School night event which is scheduled for 9/13/23 this year.

Which teachers teach which subjects?

  • Each Fifth Grade Student will have either Mrs. Eastman or Mrs. Quinn as a Homeroom Teacher. Your child will report to their homeroom the first day of school. This is also the teacher that they will have for Innovation Time.

  • Mrs. Eastman, Mr. Holman, or Ms. Gurmankin for ELA. ELA in Fifth Grade is a combined Reading and Writing block of two periods.

  • Mrs. Quinn, Mr. Holman, or Ms. Gurmankin for Math. Math is a block of two periods as well.

  • Mr. Martyniuk or Mr. Holman will be your child’s Science Teacher and will have him or her for one period daily for Science.

  • Mr. Suarez or Mr. Holman will be your child’s Social Studies Teacher and will have Social Studies for one period daily.

  • Students will have two specials daily. They will receive a paper schedule on the first day of school from their Homeroom Teacher that can be kept at home. They will also receive a copy to place in their agenda and another to place in their locker.

  • Mrs. Hanlon will be the paraprofessional who will be assigned to one of the Fifth Grade Homerooms this year to assist with learning.

What’s the best way to get my questions answered?

The best way to contact teachers throughout the year is via email. We will also be providing a lot of information at Back to School Night so we highly recommend you attend this event.
