Dear Parents,
Welcome to one of the most incredible years your child will have in their school career! Third
grade is an exciting grade in which your child will master cursive writing, multiplication facts, as
well as many other things. Each child will progress at their own rate, acquiring skills as he or
she is developmentally ready. Maintaining each child's self-esteem and building a secure
foundation for future growth will always remain a priority in our third grade classroom. Here
are some ways you can help:
*Celebrate your child's success, no matter how small it may seem. This will keep your child
enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work!
*Look for and read my weekly updates on ClassDojo. This will have important information for
the coming week, along with exciting events that will be taking place, and other school
news. You may also view our classroom website by logging on to our school website and
selecting “Mrs. Detring’s website”.
*Read to and with your child everyday, if possible. The more your child is exposed to
language, the easier it will be for them to incorporate new skills in reading and writing
in the classroom.
Finally, I would like to share with you a little about myself. I am originally from Missouri but have lived in Georgia for the past twenty-nine years. I have been teaching a total of twenty-two years. This will be my 17th year teaching third grade. I taught for one year in an elementary school in St. Louis before moving to Georgia, and then I taught Math for five years at South Paulding Middle School. I was a stay at home mom for eight years with my three children. Then I taught four years at Shelton Elementary and twelve years at Burnt Hickory Elementary. My son, Christopher, is 28 and graduated from Georgia Tech majoring in Civil Engineering. He currently lives in Washington D.C. My daughter, Cara, is 25 and graduated from Georgia College in Milledgeville, GA with a degree in Special Education. She teaches at Pickettt's Mill Elementary in Cobb County. My youngest daughter, Cayla, is 21 and is a hairdresser . I have a Master’s Degree in Elementary Reading and Literacy. In my spare time I enjoy sewing, traveling, playing tennis, and spending time with my family.
I am looking forward to working with your child this year!
Sincerely,
Pam Detring
