FLOOR HOCKEY STUDY GUIDE

 

POSITIONS

*Offense- team with the puck trying to score

 

*Defense- team without the puck trying to keep the other team from scoring

 

*Goalie- defensive player who protects the goal from the other team

 

*Center- offensive player in the front middle position who begins the game with a bully

 

SKILLS:

*Grip and Carry- place one hand on top of the stick and the other hand in the middle, keep the blade below the waist at all times

 

*Dribbling- a series of short taps of the stick blade against the puck

 

*Bully- skill used by the Centers to begin a game or after a goal is scored

 

*Goalkeeping- clear the puck to a teammate on either side, not up the middle

 

*Offense- dribble puck or pass the puck to an open teammate to score a goal

 

*Defense- steal puck away from the opposing team and clear it to teammates on offense

 

*Passing- skill used by one player to get the puck to a teammate.

 

CLASS RULES:

*Always wear safety goggles.

 

*Keep the stick below your waist or a “high stick” foul will be called

 

*Absolutely NO body contact.

 

*Offense must stay in their offensive half.

 

*Defense must stay in their defensive half.

 

*No one may go in the goalie box except for the goalie.

 

*A player may play the puck if it hits their foot, but may not kick it.

 

*A goal is equal to one point.

 

*A penalty occurs when any of the safety rules are broken. The other team will then receive a free hit and all players must stand a safe distance away from the puck.
