WHY TEACH STUDY SKILLS AND STRATEGIES

All students, regardless of their ability level, can benefit from a solid foundation of study skills and strategies. For some students, there is no need for explicit study skills and strategies instruction. For others, the need is great. Without this foundation, students may suffer not only in the classroom but also in life because study skills and strategies are the building blocks of effective learning.

Through study skills instruction, students will learn more about their unique learning style--the way they process information best. Once students know their learning style, they can use learning strategies that will enable them to maximize their learning potential. At the same time, they see how these strategies can help them outside of the classroom.

Once students have learned the skills and strategies within the study skills instruction, they will have the skills and strategies necessary to be successful learners. Students who become successful learners can apply these strategies to their academic lives, their work lives, and beyond.
