CLASS MATERIALS & ESSENTIAL POLICIES

Expectations are always high at Neville High School--for the students and the staff alike! To ensure an equitable, productive environment for our Neville Tigers, Mr. Donn's sophomore ELA students will be expected to follow these rules regarding class materials both in class and at home.  

 

MATERIALS LIST 24/25 

  • Chromebooks, charged every day.
    • Failure to bring Chromebooks to class ready to use will result in disciplinary actions.  See "Disciplinary Process" below. 
  • 1-inch, 3-ring binder.
    • Student must have a dedicated 1-inch binder for English only. Bindes may be collected at random throughout the year. 
  • Lined notebook paper
  • Black pens
  • Highlighters: Yellow, Blue, Pink
  • Portable 3-hole punch (the thin kind that fits in a binder)
  • Personal stapler 

 


EQUIPMENT & USAGE POLICIES (Fall 2024) 

CELL PHONE POLICY

  • Phones must be put away completely before sitting down for class. If a student needs to use a phone, the student must ask permission and provide a very good reason.
  • Students may either a) holster phones in the assigned location upon entering the classroom OR b) enter the classroom with phones already put away in a bag or backback.   
  • After the 1st week of practicing our routines, phones will be collected on site, without exception, and turned in to a designated staff member

CLASSWORK & HOMEWORK POLICIES/REQUIRED USE OF TECHNOLOGY

  • Students must not delete Chromebook search history for the duration of the 2024-2025 school year. Doing so will constitute a violation of Mr. Donn's usage policy and may warrant disciplinary action. 
  • All English II Assignments for Mr. Donn must be completed on the student's school-issued Chromebook. 
  • Students may NOT use personal laptaps or tablets in Mr. Donn's English II classroom. 

  • Students are required to access class materials and assignments through Google Classroom (this includes teacher materials, calendars, digital binders, quizzes, etc.)
    • Class Codes will be given no later than the first full day of classes (08/14/24)
  • Students are required to sign up for Remind texts from the teacher and Neville High School. 
    • Remind  Codes will be given no later than the first full day of classes (08/14/24)

  •  Students must Google Docs for all word processing assignments in Mr. Donn's classes, unless stated otherwise. 
  • Students will be required to use Google Slides, Google Drive, Kami, and other features of Google Classroom.

CHROMEBOOKS, PRIVACY, & USAGE POLICIES (DISCIPLINARY AND LEGAL MATTERS) 

  • Students may access only their own accounts for schoolwork. Absolutely no exceptions. 

 

PLAGIARISM, INVASION OF PRIVACY, & COMMERCIAL THEFT 

  • Access, storage or use of another person's private data or accounts, whether academic or personal, is an invasion of privacy and may constitute grounds for legal action.  This includes any other person's private date, pictures, or account information for which the user has not been given, in writing, express permision to use.  

  • Access, storage or use of another person's private data or accounts, whether academic or commercial, is theft.
    • Academic Theft: Use of  academic information belonging to another individual (student, teacher, staff, or persons online) without permission or appropriate credit is academic theft and fraud--aka Plagiarism. Grade penalties and disciplinary action will be taken against students who plagiarize. This includes in unauthorized use of AI programs to complete assignments. 
    • IdentityTheft: Use of of data, information, or financial goods belonging to another individual is identity theft at the very least

 

CONTACT & CONFERENCE PROTOCOL
PARENTS & GUARDIANS - PLEASE READ

 

  • Students are not allowed to contact a teacher through personal email. For this reason, only parents and guardians may reach me at [email protected].

  • This year part of my duties include intinerate work at another location; I am not on Neville campus after 2:30 pm daily.  For this reason, whenever possible please use email for questions and conferencing. 

  • If an in-person conference is required, please set up an official Parent-Teacher Conference through Neville's main office: 318-323-2237, Dial "1" at the prompt.  I can meet for an in-person conference during 1st period on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
