Introduction
Hello, my name is Ms. King and I am a 1st Grade Teacher at Clara Hall. I teach all subjects from Language Arts, Mathematics, to Science and Social Studies. During the 2004-05 school session, I was chosen as "Teacher of the Year." I was also selected as "Teacher of the Week" by the KNOE/FOX Network.
Teaching Philosphy
My teaching philosophy centers around the idea that all children can learn. I believe that with the help from teachers, parents, and students that each learner can reach their highest potential. Children learn differently, therefore they should be taught to fit their individual learning styles.

Data Collection
Students will be assessed weekly on the material taught throughout the week. To be promoted to the next grade, students must achieve a minimum score of 70% (a C grade) or higher in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. It is essential that you actively support your child at home by reinforcing the skills taught in class. The 2nd Semester begins in January. During this time until the end of the year your child will be required to read all assessments by themselves. It is important that they practice reading every night or you may see a change in their grades.
A sign-and-return paper will be sent home every Wednesday. (If the teacher is absent, the paper will be distributed the following day.)
Other important assessments your child will be asses on throughout the year are STAR Testing, End-of-Year (EOY) Assessments, DIBELS and Numeracy.

In Closing...
As a teacher, I will assess my students to track their development and growth within my classroom. However, just because I am the educator does not mean that I am above being assessed myself. I have to keep track of my own development and progression in reaching the children in my class. Even though I have a teaching certificate and a degree in my hand, I will be active in my own continuing education in the latest education practices and developmental findings, as I want my students to be active learners in my classroom. Education truly is the key to success.
Modeling only excellence!
