                Welcome to my "FARM"tastic Class!!!

My name is Regina Lege' Smart and I am a 1st Grade Reading Teacher/Special Education teacher (K-2).  My classroom has a western/farm theme that the students enjoy.  Each of them that enters becomes my little "cowboy" or "cowgirl."  I enjoy teaching the students about farm life and animals as well as all other subject areas of the curriculum. I hope all of my students leave my classroom with  a passion for fun and learning!!!!

I have currently been teaching  for 26 1/2 years. I transferred to Parks Primary in August of 2000 after teaching Resource in another parish for 2 1/2 years. At Parks Primary, I began teaching first grade and continued for 18 years. Five years ago, I  decided to return to helping special needs students within the resource setting.  I also teach a first grade, general education reading class.

I was Parks Primary Teacher of the Year in 2006, and Taylor and Sons Employee of the Month for St. Martin Parish in January 2012.

I am a 1991 graduate of Kaplan High School. Kaplan is my home town.  After high school I attended Louisiana State University - Eunice for 3 years.  I then transferred as a Jr. to McNeese State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in both Special Education and Regular Education.

I  have two beautiful daughters:  Linsey (29) and Laney (24).  I am also a proud grandmother "Nonnie" to three beautiful girls (5,4, and 2 months), and one handsome boy (1 1/2)).  As a family we enjoy eating out, cooking, camping, getting together with family and friends, and going to the beach. I also enjoy reading and spending time with my grandkids.

I love working with both children and parents!  I look forward to a great year filled with lots of fun, sharing, learning, singing, and much more.  I want to encourage everyone to contact me at anytime by voicemail (845-4663, ext. 2945), e-mail ([email protected]), or letter (place in your child's folder) as needed.  I also encourage feedback of both strengths and weaknesses you may be concerned about as your

child progresses throughout the year.
