KEY SKILLS (helpful websites can assist with the skills)

These are skills we worked on or are currenly working on.  Any time your  child has any free time, review these skills with  him or her.


READING- 

Finding the main idea. Student should be able to choose the main idea sentence from a paragraph or story. They will have to find supporing details for the main idea.  

 

Students will need to know the difference between literal and nonliteral language.  (figurative language)

For example:  Literal- It is raining.             Nonliteral- It is raining cats and dogs.

                         

Similes- comparing two things using as or like    

Tommy runs like a cat.      

 

Metaphors- comparing one thing to another    

Manny was a fish in the pool today.

 

Prefixes- part added to the beginning of a word  (examples- re  pre  non  un   dis   im  bi  tri)

Suffixes- part added to the end of a word (examples- less  ful  ly  tion  er  or)
