Ms. Briggs - Art Teacher

Florence Avenue School

Hello! My name is Ms. Briggs, and I am the Art Teacher here at Florence Avenue School. I am originally from Texas and truly love teaching art. I am passionate about helping students discover their creative voices and deepen their appreciation for the visual arts. I believe that every child is an artist, and I am excited to help our scholars create, explore, and grow in the art studio.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Art History with special honors, along with a certificate in Museum Studies, from the University of Texas at Austin in 2019. I then became a certified teacher through Texas Woman’s University’s Post-Baccalaureate Initial Teacher Certification (PBITC) program. I began my student teaching in the fall of 2021 and have since taught art at both the elementary and high school levels in Texas before relocating to New Jersey in 2025.

In our art studio, students will explore a variety of materials and learn about many different artists. I use a teaching approach called Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB), which is guided by three core ideas:

  • The child is the artist.

  • The classroom is their studio.

  • We ask, “What do artists do?”

This means that students in my class have the freedom to make choices in their artwork. They are encouraged to take creative risks, solve problems, and express their own ideas, interests, and identities through meaningful artistic experiences. I believe that true artistic growth happens when students discover their personal “why” and develop a unique visual voice.

In my class, risk-taking, responsibility, and problem-solving are not only encouraged, but also discussed and nurtured. We grow as artists by thinking deeply, trying new things, and supporting one another.

If you have any questions, you can email me at [email protected]. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year full of creativity, imagination, and discovery. We are ALL artists!
