Welcome to the 2026–2027 academic school year at Roy Neal Shelling Sr. Elementary! I am excited to welcome your child to my Science class and look forward to a wonderful year of learning, discovery, and growth. I am proud to teach 5th Grade PHD Science and 6th Grade Amplify Science, where students will have opportunities to explore science through hands-on investigations, observations, discussions, activities, and real-world connections. Throughout the school year, students will be encouraged to ask questions, investigate problems, use evidence, make observations, and explain their scientific thinking.

In Science, students will use a personal science logbook to record daily investigations, observations, vocabulary, questions, models, evidence, and reflections. The science logbook is an important part of our science curriculum and should be brought to class every day. Students are expected to come to class prepared with the materials needed for learning. Failure to bring required materials, such as the Social Studies book or Science logbook, may affect a student's grade when those materials are needed to complete classroom assignments or activities.

Communication between school and home is very important to me. If you have questions, concerns, or information that may help me better support your child, please feel free to contact me by email at [email protected] or by phone at (318) 322-9533, Extension 4583. My planning period is 8:45 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Parent conferences are scheduled between 7:30–7:50 a.m. and should be arranged in advance.
