Grading Policy for the Social Studies Department

 

Formative Assessments (20%): This category consists of classwork, notes, etc. Throughout each marking period, students are given many formative assessments in preparation for summative assessments.

 

Summative Assessments (80%): This category consists of tests, essays, projects, etc. During each marking period, students are assigned two-three summative assessments in the form of stardarized tests, writing assignments, and creative projects. These variations are inspired by the different strengths and weaknesses of the student body.

 

During the second and fourth marking periods, the gradebook is changed to the following due to midterms and finals:

• Formative 20%
• Summative 60%
• Midterm/Final 20%
