Classes will be focusing on 4 units based around early US history and civics, about one per marking period this school year.

 

 

Unit 1 - Colonization, Revolution & Civics Foundational Concepts and Principles (1754-1800)

 

Main Focus: 13 colonies, French & Indian War, Stamp Act, Boston Massacre, Boston Tea Party, American Revolution and the perspectives of different colonists, Human Rights, Declaration of Independence, and American Ideals/Civic Discourse

 

 

New Nation & Civics - Foundational Documents (1800-1820s)

 

Main Focus: Articles of Confederation, Constitution, Branches of government, Bill of Rights, Federalism, First Political Parties, Presidents Adam, Jefferson & Madison, War of 1812, Sacagawea & Corp of Discovery, Monroe Doctrine

 

 

Expansion & Reform: The Constitution, American Ideals, and the American Experience (1820s-1860s)

 

Main Focus: Missouri Compromise, American Foundings of Slavery and John Quincy Adams, Manifest Destiny, Andrew Jackson, Nat Turner Rebellion & Trail of Tears, Oregon Trail, Amistad, Mexican American War, Dred Scott, Abolitionist Movement & Antebellum Era

 

 

Civil War & Reconstruction & The Role of the Citizen in a Democratic Society

(1861-1877)

 

Main Focus: Causes, Effects, and Perspectives of the Civil War, Critical events/battles/costs of Civil War, 13th 14th and 15th Amendments, Roles of African Americans, Native Americans, and Women during Civil War, Emancipation Proclamation & Gettysburg Address, Impact of economic Reconstruction, First Amendment Rights, Citizen rights & responsibilities, Making of laws, Public Policy, Political Rights, Universal Declaration of Human Rights
