Welcome to Music Class!

 

To My Budding Musicians, 

   As summer comes to an end, it is time to start getting ready for school. My name is Kathryn Dauer and I am the General and Vocal music teacher at Hopewell Elementary School. I am so excited to bring my love of music to the classroom every day!  

I have an undergraduate degree in Vocal Music Education from Ithaca College, and am currently completing a Masters of Music Education at Rowan University. I play many instruments including the piano, ukulele, guitar, trumpet, violin, organ, as well as being a singer. I have a vast array of dance and musical theater experiences which I am excited to use on the Hopewell Elementary School stage.

 

   This year in music students will be singing, playing, dancing and creating music every class. All students at Hopewell Elementary School take general music during their specials class rotation! Students will all get opportunities to play instruments in general music class. Second and third grade students will learn to play the violin as part of our primary strings initiative, fourth grade students will begin learning the recorder, and fifth grade students will learn to play the ukulele. Younger students will learn to play a variety of percussion instruments including the barred xylophones and metallophones. 

 

   Fourth and fifth graders will also take choir in addition to general music class. In addition to this fourth and fifth grade students have even more musical opportunities. Both the Select Vocal Ensemble and Orff Ensemble will be returning this year as extracurricular clubs. More information on membership and meeting times will be provided to students within the first few weeks of school! We will also be putting on another original musical in March, information about this opportunity will be available in the winter. Ms. Phillips, our instrumental music teacher, has already been in touch with fourth and fifth grade parents to discuss orchestra and band opportunities, but it is not too late to join if interested so please reach out! 

 

   I look forward to meeting  all of the budding musicians at Hopewell Elementary during the first week of school! I can barely wait to begin making music and creating memories in music class with every single one of you!
