My name is Christine Hammett and I am the 4th grade English Language Arts teacher at JFK Elementary. This is my first year at JFK and I'm proud to be an Eagle!
I attended Rutgers University and graduated with my B.A. in English and Elementary Education. I have worked in all grade levels PreK-6 for the last 16 years, but my focus the last 7 years has been grades 4-6 ELA.
This year in 4th grade, we are learning so much! In reading, we will explore both fiction and nonfiction units of study. Right now we are reading Love That Dog by Sharon Creech and working on topics such as summarizing, making connections, finding text evidence, identifying figurative language, and reading using context clues. In writing, we are writing different types of poetry and using figurative language. Other writing topics this year are: personal narratives, opinion writing, and research.
Daily homework includes reading each night on level. There are books in the school library and my classroom library that students can choose from! After reading a book, students will take AR quizzes on the Renaissance site to work towards their trimester goal. Weekly homework also includes spelling worksheets and studying for weekly quizzes. Spelling City is linked in my Google Classroom and is a great resources for practicing spelling and studying for the weekly quiz!
