Talented Art/ Arts & Crafts

Welcome to my Art Class!

Ms. Goins

I am grateful for the opportunity to teach and inspire every student I can. Practice makes perfect and art takes patience. Students will be introduced to Principles & Elements of art, Complementary Colors, Analogous Colors, etc. These will be reviewed during class and shown throughout their artwork.

Principles include:

Rhythm - A principle of design that indicates movement, created by the careful placement of repeated elements in a work of art to cause a visual tempo or beat.

Balance - A way of combining elements to add a feeling of equilibrium or stability to a work of art.

Gradation - A way of combining elements by using a series of gradual changes in those elements.

Movement - A principle of design used to create the look and feeling of action and to guide the viewers eyes throughout the work of art.

Variety - A principle of design concerned with diversity or contrast.

Emphasis - A way of combining elements to stress the differences between those elements.

Harmony - A way of combining similar elements in an artwork to accent their similarities.

Proportion - A principle of design that refers to the relationship of certain elements to the whole and to each other.

Elements include:

Line - An element of art defined by eight point moving in space.

Form - An element of art that is three dimensional and encloses volume.

Shape - An element of art that is two dimensional, flat or limited to height and width.

Color - An element of art made up of three properties: hue, value and intensity.

Space - An element of art by which positive and negative areas are defined or a sense of depth achieved in a work of art.

Texture - An element of art that refers to the way things feel, or look as if they might feel if touched.

Students will learn how to draw, using their elements, principles, gridline, tracing and other methods. Students will also pull from references to create art and use a variety of mediums to create. The mediums that will be used are: Charcoal, Colored Pencils, Drawing Pencils, Ink, Pastels, Watercolor and Acrylic paint. I encourage every student to always practice drawing.

The main supplies needed for Talented Art are: Drawing pencils, erasers, rulers, and sketchbooks. Students will also be introduced to art history, for project references and basic knowledge. Expression and creativity allows room for comfort and confidence. I believe that every student is capable of creating and learning. My ultimate goal is to ensure that every student enjoys this course.
