Hello! My name is Amanda Myers, and I’m thrilled to be starting my third year at Brigantine Community School. My journey into speech-language pathology was deeply personal; my nephew didn’t start speaking until he was three years old and had also had multiple articulation errors. Witnessing his frustration and the remarkable progress he made through therapy was truly inspiring and motivated me to pursue this career. I graduated in December 2021 with a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Nova Southeastern University, and I’m passionate about using my skills to support our scholars.
In my role as a Speech-Language Therapist, I work closely with scholars to improve their communication skills. I develop and implement individualized therapy plans tailored to each scholar’s specific needs and utilize various techniques and tools, including PECS & AAC devices, to enhance communication. As a Preschool Intervention and Referral Specialist (PIRS), I focus on early intervention for preschool scholars facing behavioral or learning challenges. My responsibilities include collaborating with teachers to provide feedback, suggesting effective strategies and classroom modifications, offering professional development to promote preschool inclusion, and coordinating with various members of our team such as guidance counselors, social workers, etc. when necessary.
One of my notable contributions at Brigantine Community School has been working on the sensory hallway, which is designed to support our scholars. I believe in a personalized approach to therapy and intervention, focusing on building language skills, encouraging social interaction, and integrating communication skills into daily routines. Additionally, I am also an Advisor for our Art Club and am a proud member of Brigantines Resiliency Team!
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family, going to the beach, camping, reading, and creating pottery. I’m also involved in my community as a volunteer at a local aviation museum and am an active member of the New Jersey Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NJSHA), The American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA), and New Jersey Education Association (NJEA). If you have any questions or would like to discuss how we can work together, please feel free to reach out!
