Breakfast or Lunch: Menus are available on the school website. You may want to have a conversation with your child about what they might want to eat for lunch. There are a variety of options available each day. Bagel, yogurt, salad, and fiesta is always available for lunch. Applications for free and reduced lunch are available on the district web page. Breakfast is typically a cereal bar, pop-tart or regular cereal with choice of milk. We do not like to deny a child breakfast. If a child says they are hungry and they didn't eat at home, we will let them take breakfast. However, please know that unless your child is considered free or reduced, you will have to pay for it. Your child will be able to use their e-wallet to purchase breakfast or lunch.
Snack: We will have a working snack each morning. It usually lasts 10-15 minutes for third grade. We ask that you send in a healthy snack. A small water bottle or juice box with a dozen grapes or pretzels is a good example. Plastic water bottles should have the child's name on it as to prevent any mix-up.
**Please do not pack any snacks that contain peanuts or tree nuts as there are allergies.** We ask that you read the labels on all snacks before sending in.
Students are allowed to bring in a water bottle to drink from througout the day, however please be advised that NO METAL WATER BOTTLES are allowed.
Truman Dolphin Folders: There are two sides: “Keep Home” and “Return to School.” Homework and other items that should come back to school such as permission slips, notes, lunch money, etc belong on the “Return to School” side. Items that we put on “Keep Home” include but are not limited to checked work, finished projects, and calendars. Please empty every night. Unfortunately, sometimes, the folders rip when they become too full of old papers.
Early Dismissal: Please notify the office and us if you plan on picking up your child early or if you plan on picking up your child when they usually take the bus. Advanced notice will allow us time to have your child packed up so that instructional time is not interrupted. Handwritten note or an email that way we can forward it to the office. Please see the forms sections of this website for Change in Dismissal form.
Back-to-School Night: Please make every effort to attend.
Homework: There will be homework every night except for Fridays and before holidays. Usually, it involves one math assignment and one reading (Reading Log). The math workbook page will be ripped out and put in their Truman folder (return to school side). Homework should be done neatly. If homework is not done neatly, we may send it back and give the child an opportunity to try again. Remember that this is an opportunity for your child to show us what they know, not the parent. Also part of homework is to spend some time on ST Math, My Math and My Reading Academy each night.
Birthdays: Food treats like candy or cupcakes cannot be sent in due to district policy. Pencils, erasers, and non-food goodies are instead encouraged if you would like your child to bring in something for their classmates. Class parties will only take place for holidays such as Winter Break, Halloween, Last Day of School, etc. Also, birthday invitations should not be distributed unless the whole class is invited.
Specials:We have gym on Wednesday and Friday. Please make sure your child has sneakers on these days. Monday is music. Tuesday is media arts. Thursday is art. Lunch is at 12:30 this year.
Conferences: Conferences are only held once a year and not until the end of Jan/early Feb. Sometimes we initiate a conference before this time. If you would like to request a conference with us, it must be before or after school hours. If it is a phone conference, we can speak during our planning period as well.
Report Cards: Issued three times a school year. You will be notified when they are available on the parent portal.
Walkers: If your child does not take a bus, the pick-up for walkers is outside D wing. The only people who can pick up your child are people that you have authorized on Oncourse.
*Supplies requested for your child: art smock, some gluesticks, headphones (not wireless and also not earbuds as these do not store well), and a pencil case or toolbox. If your child would like to bring in scissors, pencils, crayons, and any other writing utensils that is fine. Pens are not permitted to be used on homework or classwork. We will supply additional writing utensils as needed. We also have some scissors and crayons if needed.
Supplies for the Classroom: tissues, hand sanitizer, Clorox or Lysol wipes.
