Course Overview:
AP/Honors Precalculus focuses on functions and their real-world applications, designed to prepare students for the rigors of AP Calculus. The curriculum explores polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions through the lens of modeling dynamic change. Students develop essential skills in symbolic manipulation, data analysis, and mathematical communication to justify their reasoning. The AP test is OPTIONAL for this course. Students who choose to pay for and take the AP exam will receive AP weighting on their final grade for their transcripts. Otherwise, students will earn honors weighting.

Tests:
Tests count for 40 - 60% of your marking period grade (depending on the marking period - see chart above). I will provide study guides or optional review assignments, along with answer keys, before each test. Students are responsible for studying for the assessment on their own time, but I am available for help if needed. Retakes are available within 10 school days of the original test and must be requested by the student. Students may take retakes after school or at any other available time, but not during scheduled class time. The retake grade stands.
Quizzes:
Quizzes count for 15 - 20% of your marking period grade. I may provide study guides or optional review assignments, along with answer keys, before each quiz. Students are responsible for studying on their own time, but I am available for help if needed. There are no retakes on quizzes.
Classwork:
Classwork assignments count for 10 - 15% of your marking period grade. These are assignments completed during class time and/or finished at home and may be paper (worksheets) or digital (Albert, Delta Math, etc) assignments.
Homework:
Homework assignments count for 5% of your marking period grade. These will be Albert.io assignments and will be due at the end of each unit.
Midterm/Final Exam/Benchmark:
Midterm and Final Exams will count as 20% of your final grade for marking periods 2 and 4, respectively. Your final benchmark grade will also count for 10% of the marking period 4 grade. The first 3 benchmark assessments (Sept., Dec., March) will not go in the gradebook.
AP Credit Option:
By taking this course, students have the opportunity to earn Advanced Placement credit, which can be transferred and used toward some college classes. Each college determines the number of credits awarded, which depends on the score earned on the Advanced Placement examination in May 2027. Dual Enrollment Option:
In addition to AP credits, students have the option of being in the Dual Enrollment program through Ocean County College. Opting into dual enrollment allows students to earn college credit simply by taking the course and maintaining a satisfactory grade while paying a discounted tuition rate per credit.
Absences:
If you are absent, check the daily agenda slides to see what you have missed. I will post answer keys for any notes we cover on the agenda slide, along with links to any digital assignments. Paper copies of assignments will be in the absent work folder.
Extra Help/Study Sessions:
I will be available at least one day a week for extra help. The scheduled extra help day(s) will be posted on the daily agenda slides. Starting in February, AP exam study sessions will be held two or more days per week. More information will be available after the AP Pep Rally.
Late/Missing Work:
Classwork and homework have strict due dates. I will accept late work (with deductions) only until the end of the nearest progress report or marking period deadline, whichever comes first.
