Course Overview & Objectives:
This year, students will analyze the various social, political, and economic factors that have influenced the development of America. Historical content will be arranged chronologically and focus on events related to the Progressive Era through the Cold War (US History) and Foundation, Structure, and Functions of the US Government and the Economy (Civics) Students will also make connections as to how these events and concepts affect current life at home.
Classroom Expectations:
In this classroom, it will be required that students demonstrate and model RESPECT at all times. This means that students will RESPECT school/classroom rules & procedures, the teacher, each other, and all belongings/supplies within the classroom. It is also expected that students walk into class each day with an open mind, a positive attitude, and come ready to learn.
Additionally, it is required that students come to class each day prepared. This means that all studentswill have all supplies and assignments with them as they walk into the classroom.
If students choose not to be prepared or follow the classroom rules, consequences will follow the actions.
Homework Policy:
Homework will be given on a regular basis and will be checked for completion and effort. The week’s homework will be due every Friday by the end of the school day. Students may turn in homework late however full credit may or may not be given depending on the individual student’s situation.
Absences:
If a student is absent from school, excused or unexcused, it is the student’s responsibility to find out what he/she missed. It is a good idea to find a reliable peer in your class period that can catch you up/ fill you in on what you missed. If missed work is not made up in a timely manner then the student will receive a zero on the assignment.
Grading Policy:
Students will be graded each 9 weeks using the following criteria:
A = 100 - 93
B = 92 - 85
C = 84 - 75
D = 74 - 67
F = 66 - 0
Extra Credit:
Opportunities for extra credit will be rare and hard to come by. The reason for this is that students should keep up with all work throughout the grading period and stay focused on doing the best that they can possibly do. If you are struggling, do not wait until the end of the grading period to ask for help.
Extra Help:
I will be available for extra help before school, 5th period, and after school. If a student would like to stay for help please let me know at least one day in advance so that I can make arrangements. I am more than happy to help you achieve success, do not be embarrassed to ask me for extra help! ☺
Academic Dishonesty:
Cheating will not be tolerated in any way, shape, or form. If a student is found cheating, both parties will receive an automatic zero. In addition, administration, and both student’s parent/guardian will be notified. Cheating can result in suspension.
