Textbook: (ALGEBRA I ONLY) enVision, Algebra I, 2018.  Our textbook this year is a traditional hardcover text. Each student will be assigned a textbook to take home, and a classroom set will be available for students to use in the classroom on a daily basis. Each student will need a 2” three-ring binder. This will hold supplemental materials, as well as their homework. It is recommended that a second three-ring binder be kept at home to hold completed work.

Testing: Tests will be rigorous as well as relevant and will match the material taught in class. Students are encouraged to form study groups and to continuously work throughout the unit. Trying to cram before an exam will almost always yield poor results. Tests/quizzes will be about every 5-10 school days.

Homework: Homework will be assigned on a daily basis. Homework is due the day after it was assigned, unless directed otherwise. Late homework will not be accepted. If a student has an excused absence on the day the homework was assigned, he/she will be EXCUSED from the homework check, meaning they will not receive the 10 points for the homework check, nor will he/she receive a 0. In the gradebook it will go in as “E”. Homework will be randomly taken up ten times each nine weeks (10 points each time), totaling 100 points per nine weeks.

Assignments: Students will be given a variety of assignments to determine their average in the course. Some of these may include bell ringers, study guides, vocabulary cards, foldables; exit questions, quizzes, and of course, tests.

Attendance: Students are expected to attend school regularly. If he/she knows they will be missing class due to a school sanctioned event please let me know in advance (not the day before).

Missed exams or assignments:Late work should be turned in on the day of the students return to school. Full credit will not be given for any late work, unless the student has an excused absence.

If a student misses an exam due to an excused absence, he/she will be able to take a make-up exam within two days of return on YOUR OWN TIME (not during your class period)!!

Grading: There will be several factors that contribute to a student’s grade in this course. Items that may be graded include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Homework (100 points, 10 points each time it is taken up)

  • Classwork checks

  • In-class participation and group work

  • Tests (5 – 7 per nine weeks)

  • Quizzes (announced and unannounced): individual quizzes could range from 10–75 points

  • Class activities

  • Projects

Grading Scale:

Algebra I Honors - 100 - 90 A, 89 - 80 B,  79 - 70 C, 69 - 60 D, 59 or less F

Algebra III– 100 – 90 A, 89 – 80 B, 79 – 70 C, 69 - 60 D, 59 or less F

Behavior: Students are expected to maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning. Students are expected to do all assignments, projects and activities with complete cooperation and dedication. No student has the right to disrupt the learning of others. If a student participates in behavior that restricts others’ rights to learn, that student will be removed from the class immediately.

ID Badges: As per the student handbook, ID badges must be worn around the neck before a student can enter the classroom. Students without an ID badge cannot enter the classroom. Those students must go and get a temporary ID. If a student is caught with another students' badge, then they will be reported to Coach McCarty and disciplinary action will be taken.
