Week of February 26
Dear Family Member:
For these two weeks our class will be learning about adapting to challenges. We will be discussing how animals adapt to challenges in their habitats. We will read different texts in the genre of expository text.
Here are some resources that you can use with your child to help reinforce the skills we’ll be practicing.
Student Learning Goals
Have your child talk to you about the learning goals they are focusing on. Ask about any goals that are particularly easy or challenging.
Word Workout
- Vocabulary Work with your child to identify the words that match each clue.
- Spiral Review: In this activity, you and your child will write a short story. You will take turns forming sentences that use the words, adding one sentence at a time to build the story.
Spelling Words
- Week 3: Variant Vowels Help your child build spelling words using letters on slips of paper.
- Week 4: Homophones You and your child will take turns using each word in a sentence, naming the spelling word, and finally spelling the word.
Comprehension: Compare and Contrast
Help your child compare and contrast three items by completing a chart describing each item. Discuss how the items are alike and different.
