myView Literacy is a comprehensive, interactive literacy program that provides a balanced approach to teaching reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing using a collection of authentic reading texts and writing workshops. In 4th grade.....

During reading, students will locate and discuss characters, setting, and the beginning, middle, and end of a fiction story. For a nonfiction story, students identify the main ideas and 4 supporting details from the text.  They should also be able to discuss the author's purpose (to inform, persuade, or entertain) for writing the story and give evidence from the text supporting their answer.  Students will also make text-self connections while reading.  Students will sound out words, recognize sight words, make predictions, and think about the text as they read.

In 5th grade....

We will be exploring a variety of different units and literary techniques.  During our class time, we engage in a variety of activities.  We will be introduced to and study new vocabulary words that will help us grow as readers and writers.  As a whole class, we will participate in various independent and guided reading activities as we read different novels and informational texts.  Your child must read every day!  We will spend the last few minutes of each class doing independent reading.

Just Words offers a sophisticated study of word structure, explicitly teaching how English works to achieve automaticity in decoding and spelling. This program supports those who have not mastered the foundational skills of language structure typically learned in Grades K–3, offering strategies that enable them to read and spell words independently and build the skills necessary to access and master grade-level standards.
