Students need to come prepared to class every day.  This includes bringing a pencil and pen (blue or black ink), their pencil case, any current reading materials (myPerspectives textbook), their planner (obtained by the student), and their binder.  On occasion, students will need to have other materials in class, such as small scissors and/or coloring utensils.

** 3/20/2022 update - Students have now established Writing Portfolios in the classroom containing the Narrative End-Unit Cold Prompt (completed on paper).  Writing-in-Progress folders continue to be on hold.  In the meantime, students need to have a Writing section in their binder in which Writing materials are safely stored & come to class every day.

Students have now all joined google classroom.  Please refer to this resource for additional information, ex. rubrics on how certain assignments will be graded.

** 6/3/2022 update - Entering 2022-2023, binders should be 1 1/2 inches.

Binders should be separated using dividers as seen below:

Amazon.com: Amazon Basics 3 Ring Binder Dividers With 5 Tabs, Paper Binder Dividers, Insertable Multicolor Plastic Tabs, Pack of 12 Sets (60 Dividers Total)

Binders come in all shapes and sizes.  These are investments; I am still using the binder I bought for the 2013-2014 school year.  Go sturdy & you will be happy later.

Best (below) - This binder has the 3 rings anchored on the back cover which offers maximum protection for the first few & last few pages in the rings during opening & closing of the binder.  There are also multiple sleeves on each inside front cover for storing items until they can get holepunched.  This binder also has a tab to open the binder's rings at the bottom; these rings are very unlikely to become dislodged (not line up with each other when closed, causing major hassles when tring to turn large chunks of pages).

Avery 3-Ring Heavy Duty View Binder - 1 1/2

Better (below) - The rings are on the binding and there is only one sleeve on each inside cover.  This is still a pretty good binder, but you may want to invest in hard plastic protectors to place before the first sheet and after the last sheet to protect those pages from getting ruined during frequent openings & closings of the binder.

SAMSILL 3-Ring Binder: 1 in Ring Size - Binders, Round, 200 Sheet Capacity - Binders, Blue, Vinyl, 2 PK - 35X896|SAMU86377 - Grainger

Ok (below) - This binding looks very sturdy, but the transparent covers reveal a lack of sleeves to insert un-holepunched papers.  The rings are also affixed on the binding, not the back cover (see "Better" above).

Worse (see below x2) - The medium blue binder below looks like a less-sturdy version of the seafoam w/ metal binder above.  There are no sleeves and these rings don't look very sturdy.  The purple binder's rings are exterior rings and likely plastic.  Flexible binders are very risky with middle school students, desks, backpacks, and lockers.

Blank 1

Worst (see below) - The flimsiness of this binder will allow for a lot of damage to happen to the rings.  Most likely, these rings will get jarred and lose their alignment with one another.  Turning pages will become a nightmare & there are no sleeves to safely store pages that can no longer stay in those rings.  Avoid this binder.
