I'm always looking for fun activities to fit into each unit. Here is just a sampling of what we did last year.
To finish the year, students were asked to think of a topic we covered in class. They had to then create a Vanity License Plate using letters and numbers. I think they did a great job one this!
Students start with a Tangram Square that looks like this |

Tangram Puzzles: Students are given aTangram Square with math problems and solutions printed on the pieces. To solve the puzzle they have to solve the problems, find the solution on another piece, and match the pieces together. |
Students read prompts that described their Fraction Band. Each prompt has a fraction, such as 40/50 or 45/75. They had to simplify the fraction in the prompt to determine how many band members fit the description. Then they got to illustrate and name their band! |
At the end of our Angles Unit, students spent a few days creating a Geometry City showcasing their knowledge of angles. Some students made theirs at school, others were given paper to make theirs at home.
During our Circle Unit, we spent some time making Protractor Art. Students were given 3 different sets of instructions on how to create stars or gems inside a circle. They had the option of doing the activity on paper, online, or a combination of the two. |
