Welcome to Ms. McCray’s Class!

Hello, Families!

Welcome to my class! My name is Desiree McCray, and I am excited to begin another year of learning, growth, and success with your child. This year marks my 9th year in education, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue doing what I love, helping students recognize their strengths, build confidence, and reach their full potential.

I currently serve as an Inclusion Teacher at Thomas Jefferson Upper Elementary, supporting students in English Language Arts and Math. I have experience working with elementary students in both general education and inclusion settings, and I am passionate about creating a classroom environment where every student feels supported, respected, challenged, and capable of success.

My Education

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. I am also currently pursuing my Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Curriculum and Instruction. My continued education allows me to bring new knowledge, strategies, and ideas into my classroom while continuing to grow as an educator.

What I Believe

I believe every child can learn and grow when they are given the right support, encouragement, and opportunities. My goal is not only to help students succeed academically, but also to help them become confident, responsible, and independent learners.

I believe that communication and partnership between school and home are essential. Parents and families know their children best, and I value working together to make sure students receive the support they need. Please feel comfortable reaching out with questions, concerns, or information that may help me better support your child.

What You Can Expect From Me

You can expect me to:

  • Create a safe, welcoming, and respectful learning environment.

  • Provide support based on each student’s individual needs.

  • Encourage students to take ownership of their learning.

  • Celebrate progress, not just perfect scores.

  • Communicate with families when important concerns or successes arise.

  • Hold students to high but attainable expectations.

  • Encourage students to advocate for themselves and ask for help when needed.

  • Work collaboratively with families, teachers, and support staff to help students succeed.

A Little About Me

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and finding ways to relax and recharge. My family is very important to me, and I believe that the same care, encouragement, and support we give our own families should be reflected in the classroom.

I am looking forward to getting to know each of my students and their families. I am excited about the opportunities this school year will bring and can’t wait to see our students learn, grow, and soar!

Thank you for trusting me to be a part of your child’s educational journey. I’m looking forward to a wonderful school year!
