This is a link to a program students use to work on their literacy skills. The program is specifically set up for your child's learning level. Another website we use is Kids A-Z. Every student has their own password to get in. Students accounts are set up so that they have a library of books on their own reading level. Students first listen to the story. Then they read the story. Last they take a comprehension quiz based on the story. Throughout the story students can click on words if they get "stuck". We often use bookflix during our zoom meetings. Bookflix is full of both fiction and nonfiction, kid friendly stories. Booklix is great for ESL students because it highlights new vocabulary terms. Students can click on the vocabulary words and see the definition. There is always a story related vocabulary game at the end of the book. Students can choose to have the book read to them in either English or Spanish. Studies show that students who are fluent readers in their first language pick up reading in their second language faster. It is also an awesome skill to be literate in two langugaes in todays world! National Geographic for Kids is a great website for ESL learners to listen to and watch videos about animals and the world around us. This website is good to use to emerse students into nonfiction information so that they can build their background knowledge about the world around them.
