The goal of the School Counselor is to improve student achievement, attendance and discipline. In addition, the School Counselor will contribute to the improvement of the overall climate and culture within the school. The School Counseling program includes individual/group counseling, classroom lessons, consultation, and coordination/referrral services.
Individual Counseling:
The School Counselor meets individually with students to provide support for school-related issues and emotional problems that are impacting a student’s ability to learn. Students can refer themselves or be referred by a parent, teacher, or other staff member.
Group Counseling:
The School Counselor will meet with small groups of students to work on various skills such as managing stress, problem solving, or anger management. Parents will be notified when their child has been chosen for participation in a group.
Classroom Lessons:
Classroom lessons are designed to promote academic success, career exploration, and personal/social development.
Consultation:
Counselors act as consultants primarily to help students, parents and teachers to be more effective in working together.
Coordination/Referrals:
School Counselors serve as liaisons between parents, teachers, support personnel, and community resources to facilitate successful student development. As student advocates, counselors often refer students to appropriate resources.
