The New World – The Civil War

 

 

 

 

1: Geography Basics & North America

Compare and contrast characteristics of regions in the United States based on culture, economics, and physical characteristics to understand the concept of regionalism.

2: Pre- Colonialism & The 13 Colonies

Investigate the start of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, life and struggles in the thirteen colonies, and how the Seven Years War helped to ignite a revolution.

3: Declaring Independence

Analyze the reasoning for declaring independence from Great Britain while analyzing important features of the document as well.

4: The Revolutionary War

Discuss how the Revolutionary War started due to confusion, analyze how the colonies led by George Washington were able to persevere through the war to ultimately win independence. Analyze the effects this had on the current landscape of the world today.

5: Government

Analyze the new nation's struggles and their attempts to create a governmental system through trial and error.

6: A New Nation

Discuss how political parties have created a current political monster in the United States as was said by George Washington. Analyze the new nations struggles. Assess the impact of the Louisiana Purchase and decisions that set a precedent for the nation.

7: Jackson & Manifest Destiny

Determine the effect expansion of a new country had on indigenous peoples through polices of government.

8: Leading Up to the Civil War

Analyze the reasoning for southern secession to create a new country. Investigate how trough leadership, Abraham Lincoln was able to preserve the Union.

9: The Civil War & It’s effects

Understand how the outcome of the Civil War and reconstruction in the south has set the country up for a civil rights battle for over 100 years in post-Civil War America.
