Ms. Del Duca’s Homework Policy
Room 210
· Why I assign homework:
I believe homework is important because it is a valuable aid in helping students make the most of their experience in school. I give homework because it is useful in reinforcing what had been learned in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, teaches responsibility, and helps students develop positive habits.
· Types of homework and when homework will be assigned:
The types of homework that will be assigned will be reading, grammar, phonics, writing, spelling, and math. Assignments should take students no more than one hour to complete each night, not including studying for tests and working on projects. I will give students at least one week’s notice to study for all tests, and one written report will be assigned each marking period.
· Student’s homework responsibilities:
I expect students to do their best job on their homework. I expect homework to be neat, not sloppy. I expect students to do the work on their own and ask for help only after they have given it their best effort. I expect that all assignments will be turned in on time. It is their responsibility to make up all homework if they were absent.
· Teacher’s homework responsible:
I will check all homework. Because I strongly believe in the value supportive feedback plays in motivating children to develop good study habits. I will recognize students when they do their homework and offer incentives.
· Parent’s homework responsibilities:
Parents are the key to making homework a positive experience for their children. Therefore, I ask that parents make homework a top priority, provide necessary supplies and a quiet homework environment, set a daily homework time, provide praise and support, not let children avoid doing homework, and contact me if they notice a problem.
· Consequences for incomplete homework assignments:
If students choose not to do their homework, I will ask that the parents begin checking and signing completed homework each night. If students choose to make up homework the next day, their homework will be accepted however they will receive a one-grade reduction on that assignment.
If there is a legitimate reason why a student is not able to finish homework, please send a note to me on the day the homework is due stating the reason it was not completed. The parent must sign the note.
Please read and discuss this homework policy with your child.
Thank you.
