Here are some helpful ideas in being a Reading Role Model:
It is important to read to your children every day to reinforce what was learned in school.
Read with your children and to yourself. Let them see you enjoying books, magazines, newspapers, etc.
Make the time you spend reading together a joyful time. Encourage your children by asking questions. Have them engaged in writing. For example, they can write a sentence about their favorite part of a story and draw a picture to illustrate it.
Make is possible to read anytime, anywhere. Bring books into doctor offices and other places where you expect long waits.
Take your children to the library often. Let your them sign up for library cards.
Look for other reading role models to point out to your children such as friends, relatives, and people your children look up to.
Give compliments and praise your children for their efforts. They will strive to their maximum potential when they are motivated.
