Mindful Monday

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I would like to share an update on a new idea that started during the 2018-2019 school year for supporting your child’s learning process that has been introduced as

“Mindful Mondays” here at Adamsville.

About Mindful Mondays!

We have started to incorporate  more mindfulness into our week through a mindfulness exercise that takes place on Mondays during lunch. Examples of exercises include a mindfulness script read to the students by the School Counselor, Mrs. Blake, listening to mindful music, or reading a mindfulness quote. Each exercise takes approximately 2-4 minutes at the beginning of lunch. The goal for Mindful Mondays is to provide students with strategies that can support their social-emotional growth.

What is Mindfulness?

By taking a few moments to tune into our mind, bodies, and breath, we are learning to stay present in the moment. Additionally, studies have shown that mindfulness can shrink the amygdala (the stress region of our brains). The benefits of mindfulness are endless, but some benefits of mindfulness are: improved student attention, reduced anxiety, better self-control/emotional regulation, reduced stress levels, and increased empathy and compassion.

Resources!

Two simple ways of integrating mindfulness into everyday life is through apps/websites and reading! Here are some favorites:

Book: I Am Peace: A Book of Mindfulness by Susan Verde

Apps and Websites: 1. Calm and 2. Smiling Mind

I am happy to offer more information on mindfulness.

Let me know if you would like to receive more information!

Thank you for all you do to support your child’s school experience!
