Dear Parents,
I hope everyone is doing well! As you know we will begin virtual only instruction starting Monday, November 30. In preparation, I wanted to disperse some information to you all! For starters, everything will be great and I have complete certainty that virtual learning is going to be a huge success. I have packed a cinch bag for each student. In this bag, you will find many useful tools for learning. I have included: a marker board, markers/erasers, pencils, pencil erasers, ReadyGEN lesson books, Headphones, “for fun” books, writing notebooks, Reading group books, math workbooks, and more. This should aide in transporting important educational tools needed for online learning. Please keep these items in the bags when possible for when we return to the school.
I have also sent home a laminated schedule. Please keep this in a safe place where it can be viewed by your child each day. This schedule will help keep all school related google meets organized. I have included times of all my live lessons, speech times, BSI times, and OT times. It is a guide to all online lessons.
Students will be required to attend all google meets except office hours from 12:00-1:15. This time slot will be available for any student or parent who has questions or concerns. Meetings for reading groups based on level will be done 2x a week for each student. Attendance to these meetings will impact a student’s participation grades for the trimester.
Finally, my assignment formats will largely stay the same. I will continue to use teachermade, readworks, IXL, Pearson, Google Slides, Google Forms and a few other great sites/apps. I will continue mainly communicating announcements with parents via Class DOJO. I will answer questions on this app much faster than google classroom or emails. Google Classroom will be where all assignments can be found. I will also be adding the attendance log to the classwork tab as well.
If you have any questions please contact me at any time on Class DOJO! I will be attempting to reach out by phone as often as possible! Thank you everyone! We got this!
Sincerely,
Mr. Hickman
