Tests: 40% of your final grade
- Class Novel Tests
- Includes multiple choice questions, short answer questions, short essay responses, etc. that relate to the novel we are currently reading and discussing together as a class. They are always open book tests.
-
Final Book Projects
- Sometimes, instead of novel tests, there will be a book project that will count as a test grade. When assigned, students will be given a rubric and ample time in class to complete these projects. They can also work on them home, but are not required to do so.
-
Writing Process Pieces
- The final published draft of a unit of writing will be worth a test grade. Students will be given peer/teacher feedback and chances to edit based on a rubric before the final grade is entered.
Quizzes: 30% of your final grade
- Class Novel Quizzes
- These are shorter versions of class novel tests. They include the same types of questions as class novel tests, but are shorter in length. They are also open book.
- Grammar Quizzes
- Certain units of study will have quizzes. Grammar is addressed in class through warm-ups, mini lessons in writing workshop, and can be practiced at any time through IXL.
- Word of the Day Vocabulary Quizzes
- Each list consists of twelve words; we have a school-wide review of one word per day. Quizzes are given after a day of review when each list is complete.
- Marking Period Menu
- Students will be given time in class to complete various Language Arts activities of their choice. At the end of the Marking Period, students who complete a set amount of activities will receive a quiz grade. Students can complete extra activities to earn extra credit.
Classwork: 20% of your final grade
- Classwork is graded on a 3 point scale.
- If you have done the whole assignment correctly, you will receive a 100. If the assignment has a few errors, you will receive a 90. If the assignment has multiple errors, you will receive an 80. If the assignment is too incomplete to receive a proper grade, or if the assignment is not turned in, you will receive a 0 in the grade book until it is made up.
Homework: 10% of your final grade
- Reading Logs are graded on a weekly basis using the same scale as classwork.
- If the homework is not turned in, it will initially be entered into OnCourse as a 0. If turned in late before one week, it will be a 50. If not turned in after one week, it will stay a zero.
