Greetings!

 

    My name is Matthias Drewry. I am the 6^th grade Social Studies teacher, and this is my twenty-first year as an educator and my fourth year at Sallie Humble Elementary. With that being said, I would like to share some of my professional background information/experience with you.

 

     First, I was born and raised in the area. After high school, I joined the workforce for five years before deciding to follow my calling to become and educator at which point I enrolled at NLU a.k.a. ULM. I graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a B.A. in Elementary Education 1-8, in May 2000. I also studied at Louisiana Tech University and ULM to earn my M.Ed. +30 in Administration and Supervision, in 2006. In the past, I served as an administrator, but returned to the classroom ten years ago to teach once more. Over my career, I have taught at Richwood High School, City Park Elementary (in Dallas, TX), Mangham Elementary, Lakeshore Elementary, once again at Mangham Elementary, Cypress Point University Elementary, and Levi Milton Elementary (in Livingston Parish).

 

     In 2015, I was selected as the “Richland Parish Elementary Teacher of the Year”, and in 2019, I was selected as the "Monroe City Schools District Elementary Teacher of the Year." To add, in 2022 I was selected, once again, as the "Monroe City Schools District Elementary Teacher of the Year," and in July 2022 I was selected as the 2023 Louisiana Elementary Teacher of the Year by the Louisiana Department of Education.

 

  In closing, I want to welcome your child to my class, and to let you know that my passion is educating young minds. I welcome a partnership so the we can help your child find a joy for learning and growth/success in the classroom.
