Greetings!
My name is Matthias Drewry, and I am the Assistant Principal here at Sallie Humble Elementary. This year marks my twenty-fifth year in education and my sixth year at Sallie Humble. With that being said, I would like to share some of my professional background and experience with you so you can get to know me a little better.
To begin, I was born and raised in the area. After graduating from Mangham High School, I joined the workforce for five years before deciding to enroll at Northeast Louisiana University to pursue a degree in eduaction. I graduated from NLU a.k.a. the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a B.A. in Elementary Education 1-8, in May 2000. A few years later, I pursued a masters degree in leadership and attended Louisiana Tech University and ULM to earn my M.Ed., in Administration and Supervision, in 2006 followed by a +30 in 2013, in continuing education. Throughout my career, I have taught at Richwood High School, City Park Elementary (in Dallas, TX), Mangham Elementary, Lakeshore Elementary, Cypress Point University Elementary, Levi Milton Elementary (in Livingston Parish), and Sallie Humble Elementary.
In 2015, I was selected as the “Richland Parish Elementary Teacher of the Year”, and in 2019, I was selected as the "Monroe City Schools District Elementary Teacher of the Year." To add, in 2022 I was selected, once again, as the "Monroe City Schools District Elementary Teacher of the Year." That honor culminated in July 2022 when I was selected as the "2023 Louisiana Elementary Teacher of the Year" by the Louisiana Department of Education.
