Welcome!

Thank you for visiting my website. My name is Alanna Thana. I hold a master’s degree in Special Education and have completed 69 post-master’s credits. I am certified in Special Education, Elementary Education, and History, and I also hold a Learning Disabilities Teacher–Consultant (LDTC) certificate. Since 2010, I’ve had the privilege of working in education. Currently, I serve as a Drawbridge teacher at the middle school level, supporting students primarily through resource and push-in services.

A Message to Students & Families

Thank you for your partnership. A well-rounded education is only possible when we work together, and I deeply value the relationship between home and school. As both a teacher and a parent, I understand how important it is to feel supported. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need help navigating school, whether it's about social-emotional support, food programs, technology, or anything else.

Building strong relationships with students and families is at the heart of what I do.

Our Learning Environment

I support students both in the general education classroom and in small group settings. My goal is to help every student build academic skills, self-confidence, and independence, all while meeting their IEP goals. We focus on educational fluency using tools like iXL, McGraw-Hill, Google Classroom, and more. I also try to bring joy to learning through movement, projects, and collaborative activities.

Please use our online tools and classwork as a way to check in with your child—ask about what we’re learning and celebrate their efforts. Together, we can bridge the gap between school and home.

  • Stay organized and neat
  • Take turns and listen actively
  • Turn in assignments on time
  • Follow classroom and hallway rules
  • Try your best and support others
  • Celebrate your success and your classmates’ achievements

Materials Needed

  • A positive attitude
  • Any classwork or assignments
  • Signed notes or documents as needed

Grading & Progress Monitoring

Grades are based on a combination of:

  • Progress toward IEP goals
  • Completion of assignments
  • Participation and effort
  • Tests/quizzes
  • Classroom behavior and expectations

When evaluating students, the following is considered:

  • How much effort was shown
  • Progress made on curriculum and IEP goals
  • Level of independence
  • Improvement since last marking period
  • Collaboration with peers and teachers
  • Comparisons to the student’s previous performance, not to others

Grades reflect each student's ability after accommodations, modifications, and other considerations stated above are implemented. If a student is not working to their potential,  completing assignments, homework, or not studying for tests and quizzes, they may receive a failing grade. Please reach out if you have concerns so we can work together to help your child succeed.
