Algebra III H/DE Policies and Procedures

Policies

Bellringer:

A math problem will be placed on the smartboard each day. Students are to copy the problem (or a shortened form of the problem) and show all work in order to receive full credit. Bellringers will be collected on Fridays and will be worth 20 points (subject to change depending on number of bellringers for the week.)

Homework:

Homework assignments will be worth 10 points each. There will be a minimum of 25 homework assignments.  All homework is online, so in the case of an absence, students WILL be responsible for homework and quizzes on the due date.  All students will take the test even if they were absent on the previous day. Remember there are online resources for each lesson for students needing further explanation or those who are absent.

Tests and Quizzes:

There will be 20 point quizzes after every 2 to 4 sections and a 100 point test at the end of each chapter.  Students have 10 attempts per quiz. All tests must be made up before school, during lunch, or during tiger time within 5 days of a students return to school. No test will be made up during class. If a student does not show up for the makeup exam he/she will receive a grade of zero.

Participation Grade:

Students will receive a 50 point participation grade per test.  Factors that account for the participation grade include taking each quiz at least two (2) times, taking the practice test at least two (2) times, and having all their notes and work in their binder for the binder check.

Tutoring and Makeup Work:

I will be available each morning at 7:00 a.m. for any students needing extra help. This is also when all makeup exams can be given. If you need to take a makeup exam, be sure to arrive early enough to complete the exam. It is also your responsibility to obtain a hall pass ahead of time.

Cell Phones

Due the amount of technology in this classroom, I will not permit the use of cell phones.  Cell Phone Usage is defined as interacting with your phone, using portable devices to access your phones ( headphones or smart watches), or attaching your phone to any computer or outlet in my room.

On the first offense, I will hold your cell phone until the end of the block.

After your first offense, you will adhere to the policy that has been implemented in the school.

  • First offense - The phone is given to administration and a parent or guardian must pick it up. Student will be placed on a cell phone contract.

  • Second offense - the phone must be picked up by a parent or guardian and an all-day ISSC will be issued.

  • Third offense - the student is assigned alternative to suspension for one day

  • Fourth offense - the student is assigned alternative to suspension for two days

  • Fifth offense - the student is assigned alternative to suspension for three days

  • Any further infractions will result in the student not having a cell phone on school grounds during the school day. Furthermore, students who do not adhere to these guidelines will be subjected to other disciplinary actions.

Procedures

1. Students must be in the classroom before the tardy bell rings with all materials needed for class.

2. Students must enter the classroom in an orderly manner, pick up any notes for the day (they will be placed on the front table), grab their assigned laptop from the cart, and return to their desk to begin working on the bellringer. Students will be responsible for the chromebook assigned to them.  If they drop it, the student is responsible.

3. During the lecture students are not allowed on the laptops.  All laptops should be closed and/or placed under the desk.

4. Progress grades are given every 4 1/2. If you want to know your grade at any other time, you may check parent command center.

5.  Any makeup work must be done within 5 days after returning to school.  If you show up late for a makeup, you limit your time to complete the work.  Be sure to obtain a hall pass ahead of time.

6.  If there is a fire drill, students must exit the classroom, go out the front doors, and meet as a group in the front parking lot. ( I will call roll and anyone not accounted for will be reported for skipping class.)  If an alarm sounds with an announcement following, students should quietly wait for directions from the teacher.
