Hello, My name is Tina Bartko. I will be your child's Math and Science teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. To know me, is to know I LOVE TEACHING! I was not the best math student growing up. In fact, I really disliked math! I even majored in Elementary Education and English so I could avoid as much math as possible. Then...it began, I had my own classroom and I could teach math the way I thought it should be taught! I never understood the why of math. Back in the olden times teachers would stand in the front of the classroom and tell you what to do, then expect you to do it. I couldn't memorize any of my multiplication facts or formulas for algebra and could not follow what the teacher was telling me. All of the negative feelings I had towards math as a child has shaped me into the math teacher I am today! I like for math to be taught with purpose and understanding. When teaching fractions, pizza and candy bars are referenced, area and perimeter involve designing a garden or taco truck, angles.....we build a golf course for the classroom! Math can be fun if you open up your mind to it! Long division may not be as exciting as building a mini-golf course, but solving a 15 digit long problem will give you a sense of accomplishment! (It is a challenge goal)
Me in a nutshell, I graduated from Jersey City State College in 1996. I married my college sweetheart and we have 2 daughters. In fact my older daughter just earned her Master's Degree at our alma mater "New Jersey City University." . My younger daughter is attending NJCU working towards earning her Bachelor's degree and becoming an Art teacher. Go Gothic Knights! Both my girls played volleyball and are taller than me! I love what I do! Feel free to ask any questions, however I may not have all of the answers!
We will get through this year together as a team!
I will leave you with this.......
"Always pass on what you have learned." "Truly wonderful the mind of a child is." Yoda
