Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
As your child’s teacher it is my responsibility to lead your child toward academic success. For optimum success, we must work together to ensure our students achieve this year’s goals.
The Social Studies Department has devised several goals for student performance.
All students must display good citizenship skills, and improvement in the following areas.
v Accepting responsibility/preparedness
v Improving study skills and writing skills
v Behavior
v Active participation
v Completion of assignments
Achieving these goals will require a joint effort. With teacher dedication, parental involvement, and student motivation, all of these areas are attainable.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please refer to my eBoard. You may also call the school or email me at the address at the bottom of this letter. My prep period is during block 3 on both A and B days. Thank you in advance for your anticipated help and assistance in meeting the goals and expectations. I am looking forward to having a positive, uplifting, and successful school year!
Sincerely,
Mr. Sengotta
Social Studies educator

History Department Grading Policy
- Homework 10%
- Classwork 20%
- Projects 20%
- Tests 30%
- Quizzes 20%
Tests and Quizzes
• There will be a minimum of four tests and quizzes each cycle.
• Your child should expect a quiz half way through each chapter. They may or may not be given advanced notice of the quiz.
• Tests are given each time we complete a chapter. I will always give the students’ at least twenty four hours’ notice of a test as well as supplying them with either a study guide and/or a review session.
Homework Assignments
Homework is assigned for most sections of the chapter. All work is due on the last day of the week. Homework is intended to reinforce what is learned in class as well as prepare for in-class discussion.
Student Absences
It is your child’s responsibility to find out what work was missed on the days that he/she was absent. Your child should speak to me, a classmate, or use the eBoard to insure that all work is done on a timely basis. It is essential that satisfactory attendance be maintained. While the school policy allows for up to sixteen (16) absences during the year, it should be understood that students are expected to be in school at all times unless physically unable to attend. Four (4) unexcused lateness to class equals one cut.
