Entrance Into the Classroom

1. Calmly and quietly enter the room.

2. Read the Objective(s) to see what you will be learning in class.

3. Begin working on your bellringer.

5. Bellringer time is not a time to socialize or to ask the teacher questions. The teacher should be able to take care of attendance and other beginning of class business while students are working on their bellringer.

6. If you finish your bellringer before the teacher is ready, you are to sit quietly and wait for the lesson to start.

What to Do with Your Belongings

1. Please keep all of your belongings in the back of the room.

2. You are responsible for all of your own personal belongings as well as the school items assigned to you.

3. When you leave class to go to another class, you are to take all of your belongings with you. You are also responsible for returning class supplies used during class to their proper place.

Sharpening a Pencil

1. Please sharpen pencils before class or during bellringer time.

2. If your pencil breaks, raise your pencil and get permission to sharpen it.

Using the Bathroom

Raise your hand and ask to be excused to go to the restroom. Use discretion when asking to do so, when possible.

If You Are Tardy

If you are entering the class after it has started, you will be marked as tardy.

If You are Absent

If you happen to be absent, you will then need to complete any missing assignments for the day. It is your responsibility, not the teachers, to collect this work and see that it is turned in. You have one day for every day that you were out to make up the work. All tests and quizzes should be made up within five school days.

Materials and Classroom Supplies

1. All students are expected to come to class every day with the necessary materials: pencils.

2. Students will not be allowed to return to another class to retrieve forgotten materials.

3. I have paper and pencils, along with other necessary materials for your use when necessary, but you must ask permission to borrow these materials.

When the Teacher Wants Your Attention

If you need to get the teacher’s attention, raise your hand and patiently wait for her to respond. If you are sick or it is an emergency, you may interrupt the teacher if she is speaking.

If You Finish Your Work Early

If you finish your work before others are done, there are several things that you may do.

  • First, check to make sure that you followed all directions and completed the entire assignment.

  • Complete unfinished work for English.

  • Read a book

At no time should you be sleeping or sitting with nothing to do.

Classroom Discussions

All students are asked to participate in classroom discussions. Your teacher wants to hear what you have to say! However, please make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion. If your question is off topic, write it down and ask it later. Students should raise their hand to volunteer an answer or ask a question. If we are not in a classroom discussion or doing group work, you do not have permission to talk.

Main Classroom Rules

1. Respect your teacher and your classmates

2. Listen and follow directions

3. No talking without permission

4. Stay in your seat at all times

5. Keep your hands and feet to yourself

Consequences

We follow the schoolwide discipline policy.

If You Feel Sick

If you feel sick, tell your teacher and sign out on the clipboard by the door. Please let your teacher know if you feel faint or if you’re not sure you can make it to the office alone.

If You Think You are Going to Throw Up

If possible, tell someone near you that you feel sick and head directly to the bathroom. Do not sign out. Do not take a pass. Just GO.

If the Fire Alarm Goes Off

If the fire alarm goes off, stop what you are doing immediately and quietly line up at the door. This is not the time to talk! The teacher will direct you to the nearest emergency exit.

Visitors and Announcements

When a visitor enters the room, you are expected to continue working quietly on the task at hand. If the visitor enters while the lesson is being presented, you are expected to sit quietly. When announcements are made, you are expected to stop whatever it is that you are doing and listen without talking as the announcements are made.

End of Class Dismissal

Do not start packing up your materials in anticipation of the end of class. Class is over when I say: “Have a great day!” Before you leave, take a look at the floor around you. Pick up any items on the floor (whether they belong to you or not) and throw them in the trash if necessary.

Substitute Days

There may be times when there will be a substitute present. If so, these are the rules that will be followed:

1. Do what you are told.

2. Do NOT talk back.

3. Be respectful.

4. Be honest.

5. Stay on task.

6. Listen to all directions.

7. Make good choices.

8. Act the same way you would (or better) if Mrs. DuBois were here!
