Course Outline:

Students will take Driver's Education the 1st marking period of their sophomore year in high school. The objective is to prepare students for the state written exam so they may earn their Special Learner Permit.

State Written Exam:

The written knowledge exam will be taken the 2nd to last week of the marking period with makeup exams administered the last week of the marking period.  To earn a passing grade on the state test, students must score an 80% or better. If a student does not pass the exam with an 80% they will have to retake it.  We allow only one retake after a failed attempt.  After 2 failed attempts students must take the test at a Motor Vehicle Commission testing site.

Class Participation:

40% of a students overall grade is determined by class participation.  This includes, arriving to class on time, adhering to the rules of the classroom, completing all in class assignments and refraining from the use of cell phones.  Students are encouraged to actively participate in class discussions and contributed positively to the environment of the classroom.

Cell Phones:

There is a zero tolerance cell phone policy in class.  Cell phones have been proven to be a negative distraction during classroom learning and will not be tolerated.  Students are to keep their cell phones in their bookbags during class. Any cell phones out (whether the student is on it or not) will result in a zero for class participation for the day.
