COURSE INFORMATION
Band class is a course designed for percussion and wind instrument students to have the opportunity to refine their performance skills as individuals and as an ensemble. Students will also participate in marching band, concert band, and solo and ensemble settings. Performances are a major part of the band learning experience and students are expected to participate in all band performances in and out of school. THIS IS A PERFORMANCE BASED CLASS, and failure to participate in class will be reflected in the students grade. Also, students MUST be fully engaged in class performing to the best of their ability in order to attain a good daily grade.
Each student will be required to pay a yearly $25.00 instrument fee for the use of Wossman High school’s instrument. This fee is for any replacement items that each student will need throughout the school year.
PURPOSE
The purpose of the Advanced Band Class shall be to:
1. Develop and maintain excellence as musicians, performers, and student leaders.
2. Represent Wossman High School at different sport games, school functions, music festivals/competitions, parades, concerts and other community functions.
3. Meet/exceed the state and nationally adopted academic standards for music.
4. Demonstrate to educational authorities the academic value of training and experience gained through music as an important and beneficial component of public education.
5. Build strong relationships and lasting memories within this organization through hard work, dedication, positive attitudes, teamwork, and the enjoyment of music.
CLASS RULES & EXPECTATIONS
As a student of the Advanced Band Class of Wossman High School, students are expected to:
1. Treat everyone with respect.
2. Be on time, prepared, attentive, and an active participant.
3. No eating or drinking.
4. Take responsibility for our own actions.
5. Follow rules, policies,and procedures set by Wossman High School
6. Demonstrate pride in our education, practice and performance.
GRADING
Students will receive grades on a weekly basis. Those grades will consist of written assignments/exams, class participation, playing tests, and event performances. All graded work will be worth 100 points. It is the responsibility of the student to make up any work. Students MUST make up the work in the timeframe given to them by the teacher. Failure to do so will result in a grade of zero for the assignment or test.
GRADING SCALE:
A- 100-90%
B- 89-80%
C- 79-70%
D– 69-60%
F- 59-Below
All events and announcements will be posted on the band room wall , Google Classroom, the Remind App, Band App, smartboard, and announced in class.
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP YOURSELF INFORMED.
Saying “I didn’t know” will not be accepted.
