Tips for Reading with your Child:

 

--Pick a comfortable spot at home.

--Make it part of your routine.

--Give lots of meaningful encouragement! Instead of just saying "Great job" try giving specific feedback (ex. "You did an awesome job stopping at periods and pausing at the commas when you were reading today.")

--When you finish a story, ask your child to tell you about their favorite part, characters, or illustrations.

--Don't limit reading to books! Practice reading using menus, cards, directions to games, maps, magazines, or comic strips.

--Discuss new vocabulary words together.
