K-4 Physical Education
Welcome back to the new school year! I am very excited to be back and working with your children. I will continue to include a variety of activities (age appropriate) that each and every child will be able to participate in on some level. My goal is to have students leaving class with a smile on their face and the eagerness to come back again.
For your child's safety, I ask that they show up to physical education class with sneakers and comfortable clothing. Please, no: flip flops, sandals, Uggs, boots, or Crocs! Your child will be running around and it's extremely important that they have a fully protected ankle and foot so that injury can be better prevented. I also ask that your child does not wear jewelry to class, as that can harm not only themselves but other students as well. Again, I'm looking out for the safety of each and every student, so your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

I'm looking forward to a wonderful school year and I'm trying to create some new events this year for the students to show them how much I care! Some new things to look for this year are:

Also, I'm looking to bringing back (with modifications) Mr. Schiff's Big Foot Running Program. It will be with the 3rd and 4th graders only because we will be walking over to the Tighe School Field once a month and I feel that they are old enough to get there in a timely manner and back during the 40 minute period and still have enough time to run their laps. BUT, it gives the younger kids something to look forward to as they advance in grade levels.
About the Program:
3rd and 4th grade students will walk over to Tighe during one of their Physical Education Classes, once a month, and will be given a number of laps to complete in 15 minutes. The laps will be within reason and a number that even children who choose to walk and lightly jog will be able to finish. Their laps will be recorded, so they can do more if they choose.
If they complete, at least, the number I give them, they get the monthly charm (Ex. Feb = Heart, December = Snowman, March= Clover). I have special charms for when their total number of laps, over a period of time, equal a 5K, 13.1, and 36.2. It gives the kids motivation to run and want to be healthy!
I will announce at the end of the school year the boy and girl from each class with the most laps done for the year and also the top class from each grade with the most laps combined for the year.
