K-4 Physical Education


Dear Parents/Guardians,

      Hopefully your children are enjoying their school year and having fun in my class! As we approach the end of the year, there are a few things I wanted to announce. 

1. iRun4Life Club


iRun4Life is a fun, noncompetitive running program for boys and girls designed to promote fitness and healthy lifestyles with your children.  iRun4Life focuses on exercise, healthy nutrition, and doing good deeds in our community. Training will start April 27th, 2017 with our goal race being a Margate Beach 3K Run. We will combine dynamic warm ups, relay races, endurance running and discussions about healthy nutrition. 




Key features of the iRun4Life program include:



  • MILES RAN- Each runner can record their mileage on the iRun4Life.com database. Simply go into the website, click on the banner “Login,” complete the student login, and input the number of miles you ran each day.
  • GOOD DEEDS - Good deeds include extra help around the house, helping friends and teachers at school, helping in your community, etc. Each runner can input their Good Deeds in the database after they input their miles run.
  • GOAL RACE – Our goal race is the Margate Beach 3K Run on Saturday, June 3rd
  • RUNNING WITH YOUR PARENTS – Each child can record double mileage if they run with a parent or guardian.


iRun4Life is open to 2nd grade through 4th grade. We will practice on Thursdays after school from 4/27 through 5/25. We will run rain or shine!

Please register your children online. This registration includes the waiver, as well as all student information. Please note, if they say there is a fee, THERE IS NOT. We are not asking for money to be in this club.


It’s very easy to sign up online. Please go to www.iRun4Life.com to complete the registration process (instructions are posted online).


We are also looking for parent volunteers to be coaches and help with the program.

 2. Field Day is June 9th! 

Just like last year, a paper will go home asking for volunteers! The more the merrier! It will be indoors and outdoors, with half the day over at Tighe.

    I'm looking forward to a wonderful school year and I'm trying to create some new events this year for the students to show them how much I care! Some new things to look for this year are:

Healthy Runners Incentive Program:

Also, I'm looking to bringing back (with modifications) Mr. Schiff's Big Foot Running Program. It will be with the 3rd and 4th graders only because we will be walking over to the Tighe School Field once a month and I feel that they are old enough to get there in a timely manner and back during the 40 minute period and still have enough time to run their laps. BUT, it gives the younger kids something to look forward to as they advance in grade levels. 

About the Program:

   3rd and 4th grade students will walk over to Tighe during one of their Physical Education Classes, once a month, and will be given a number of laps to complete in 15 minutes. The laps will be within reason and a number that even children who choose to walk and lightly jog will be able to finish. Their laps will be recorded, so they can do more if they choose. 

If they complete, at least, the number I give them, they get the monthly charm (Ex. Feb = Heart, December = Snowman, March= Clover). I have special charms for when their total number of laps, over a period of time, equal a 5K, 13.1, and 36.2. It gives the kids motivation to run and want to be healthy!

I will announce at the end of the school year the boy and girl from each class with the most laps done for the year and also the top class from each grade with the most laps combined for the year.
