Math 8 Class Expectations
This year we will be using te Big Ideas textbook in Math 8. You will be able to access the online textbook through your clever login (log in with google).
Classroom Procedures:

It is important to attend class on time every day. This means that you are logged on to the meet on time with your notebook and textbook. We will begin each day with a focus activity so please come in and focus!

It is important to come prepared for class every day. You will need your binder (for math only), a pencil, your covered textbook, agenda, and your homework with you during class time.

Always give 110%. You are expected to participate in classroom discussions and classwork. Homework is to be completed as assigned.

1" or 1.5” 3 ring binder (For Math class only)

5 Labeled dividers (Focus, Notes, Classwork, Homework, Graded Assignments)
- Loose leaf notebook paper (not a spiral notebook)

Pencil

Student Textbook
- If you would like to purchase a calculator (it is not required), we will be using the TI - 34 calculator in class
Absences:
If you are absent for any reason, this includes illnesses, class trips, band, chorus, etc. it is your responsibility to make up the classwork and homework for that day.
If you are aware that you are going to be absent, you are expected to have all missing work with you the day you return. You are expected to come to me to receive work that you will be missing.
If you are unaware that you will be missing class, then you will have one day to make up the work for every one day missed.
If you are absent on the day of an assigned quiz or test, you will make it up the day you return. However, if class is missed on the day of a quiz due to a school activity, arrangements for makeups should be made before class. You may not miss class due to a school activity on the day of an announced test.
Homework/Graded Assignments:
Homework will be checked daily. Each day a long term graded assignment is late it is lowered one letter grade. It is important to complete all assignments on time.
If there is some confusion or difficulty with the material from the new topic you may have to limit your time spent on that part of the homework, but it is expected that you TRY ALL! If you are stuck on a problem, you must write what you did not understand post it on your homework.
Homework is worth 10% of your grade and graded assignments are worth 15%.
Test/Quizzes:
All test and quizzes will be announced and written on the board several days before.
If you are absent on the day of the test, be prepared to take the test upon your return.
If you are absent for several days prior to a test, special arrangements will be made for you to take the quiz or test during class or Lunchtime.
Test and Quizzes are worth 75% of your grade.
